Incandescence: Rising Above Darkness Excerpt Chapter #22 Muffins And Magic

Marisha considered flirting an art form. She wanted to teach me the basics even though, as she put it, “You are not likely to ever get it.” Taking it upon herself, Marisha decided to show me how to get guys even though I wasn’t interested in learning to flirt, especially with the guys she selected. Looks appeared to be the only consideration she made, saying unapologetically, “I like cute guys.” What they had to say did not matter to her. The first time we went out together, I made an attempt to converse with the men she selected for us to flirt with. I failed miserably. She said, “You intimidated them with real talk.” The next time I tried to think of something unintimidating to say which ended up with me editing everything that came into my head. Then she said, “You scared them with silence.” I tried superficial conversation, but she said it came off as patronizing. It became clear to us both I was not going to succeed at being convincingly superficial enough to flirt successfully. She concluded it was her duty alone to do the flirting, and I should not even try. I was relieved.
