This art featured in my memoir, Incandescence Rising Above Darkness is included as a moment of serenity between chapters and does not necessarily have any literal connection to the story.

Incandescence Rising Above Darkness Chapter #13 Crazy Carrot

Something about their identical suits approaching my front door was disturbing. Even from my fourteen-year-old inexperienced perspective, I knew this was going to change things. Never having seen such serious-looking men up close before, these truancy officers both intrigued and terrified me. As soon as I opened the door, the shorter one asked, “Are you Clare Cooley?”

“Hello,” he said. “I hope I am not calling too late. I just wanted to thank you for coming in today. You uplifted me. Most people complain about nothing. You have so much to complain about, but you don’t. When you left, I felt better than when you walked in, which never happens.” After a short silence, he added, “Don’t change. Don’t let them change you!”
